The latest election results of Bihar have made it clear that politics is no longer just a game of speeches, yatras and big rallies. The real fight is for that leader who can take his message to every house, every locality and every booth. This is the time to understand how strategy, organization and crowd-based models stick on the ground. In a democracy, victory is won by the one who can convey to the voters not only promises but also his preparation, seriousness and confidence. After all, who do people listen to? Who do you trust? And whose work do you remember while voting? Bihar elections give direct and unhesitating answers to these questions. In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, three big players of politics entered the fray in completely different styles — and the results made it clear who had the real power. On one side was Prashant Kishor, who tried to present the Jan Suraj Party as a big mass movement. On the other hand, was the BJP, which fought the elections like an organized mission by maintaining a strong hold up to the booth-level. And on the third side was the Congress, whose campaign in many places looked more like a political picnic than an election. Data, events, and ground realities—all three together tell one thing: which of these three models really worked hard, who built the structure, and whose game was weak from the beginning.

Prashant Kishor has been considered one of the sharpest minds in India’s electoral politics in the last decade. Be it Modi’s historic 2014 campaign, Nitish Kumar’s comeback, Amarinder Singh’s victory, Jagan Reddy’s tsunami or Mamata Banerjee’s strength - the influence of Prashant Kishor’s strategy is clearly visible behind many big elections. In such a situation, when he started Jan Suraj, it was natural that people expected that he would create a stir in the politics of Bihar. An effective strategist, a powerful communicator, thousands of kilometres of “Padyatra”—on paper and presentation everything looked like a victorious campaign. But the results changed the whole story in one line: Jan Suraj—not a single seat. The party contested 238 seats out of 243—the intention was big; the scope was wide. A total of 3.44% votes were polled, but the biggest shock was that NOTA took more votes than Jan Suraj Party in 68 seats out of 238. That is, in almost one-third of the areas people said – “Not you, no one else will do.” In some initial stages, Jan Suraj Party was ahead on 3-4 seats, but every lead collapsed within a few hours. This is a clear indication that when national level strategists like Prashant Kishor themselves enter the field, the same old truth comes to the fore: strategy can make you strong, but organization brings victory. Ideas can inspire, padyatras can create atmosphere, but seats come only when you have cadre sitting at every booth, local trust and a consistently active network. And this was the place where the entire structure of Jan Suraj failed to stand on the ground.

While Prashant Kishor was busy in the politics of narrative, message and movement, at the same time the BJP was quietly raising a huge, disciplined and highly organized cadre on the ground. In the run-up to the elections, the party created a full-scale war room system—a central war room of about 300 members in Delhi and separate candidate-level war rooms in each assembly. These were not cosmetic arrangements; From here, feedback was taken 24 hours and the strategy was updated continuously on that basis. The real strength of the BJP was reflected in its booth structure—five dedicated workers at every booth, a Panna Pramukh, a Shakti Kendra in-charge and an organized network trained to deliver the message door-to-door. The party divided Bihar’s nearly 90,000 booths into categories and prepared a separate micro-strategy for each category, taking into account local socio-political equations and past voting patterns. To create a natural, connect with the voters, lists of two-wheeler owners were made at every booth, groups were formed and the workers strengthened the relations by actively participating in festivals like Janmashtami, Dussehra. All this shows that the BJP was not just running a campaign—it was turning every booth into a strong political unit. ‘Har booth is our fort’ was not a slogan for him, but a deeply implemented strategy.

Parallel to this broader structure, the entire BJP organization was continuously in the field—from local workers to MLAs, MPs, ministers, Union ministers and MLAs from other states. He was roaming from village to village, locality to locality, meeting people from house to house, holding small meetings and listening to local issues and making political dialogues accordingly. This sustained grassroots presence and voter-level engagement took the BJP beyond mob politics and into real votes. Understanding the data of beneficiaries and connecting directly with them and linking the benefits of the schemes to actual voters became the BJP’s decisive advantage – which found a much more effective base than any ‘narrative’ or ‘movement’.

While the BJP was fighting a close battle at the booth-level, the Congress was just happy to see the crowds at Rahul Gandhi’s Bihar visit and road show. In the post-election analyses, Congress leaders themselves admitted that the party’s grassroots organization was very weak. Neither the workers were active at the local level, nor the right candidates were selected, and the biggest shortcoming was that Congress could not create any strong booth-level structure. There were big speeches and tours, but no real effort to convert them into door-to-door contacts and votes. The result of this organizational weakness was clearly visible in the party’s poor performance, and now voices are being raised from within the Congress itself that there is a need for a serious re-evaluation of the strategy and organization.

This election is not just a result but a complete blueprint for politics. This proves that to win elections today, the party has to function like a modern institution—a data-driven strategy, accountability at every level and constant ground feedback. For Prashant Kishor, this election may not be the end but the beginning of a long journey of building an organization. This is a strong message for the Congress: crowds, outrage and headlines alone do not win elections—structure, reach and grassroots strength do. In a big democracy like India, ultimately victory is won by the one who works hard to reach out to every house, booth to booth and heart to heart.
